Last night I received a sense of being part of the body of Christ. I don't know why. Jo had gone to bed early and I was lying next to her, just looking at her, when I had a distinct but not overpowering feeling. The feeling has carried over into today. It has two main features. The first feature is the awareness of being 'a member' of the body, and hence an awareness of the rest of the body. I am joined to others, and we all comprise a single organism that is united by being joined to Christ. I am only a part, but I am a part nevertheless, and whether I want it or not I am joined to and dependent upon the rest of the body. The second feature is the awareness of the Holy Spirit flowing through the body, through all the parts and through me. It is a feeling of the Spirit I have not experienced before. Normally I feel the Spirit as though the Spirit is sitting somewhat statically inside of me, filling me as an individual. This time I had the sense that the Spirit was flowing though me and the whole body, not sitting still but dynamic. It is like the Spirit is the blood, or is in the blood, pumping through the whole body of Christ. Not filling me as an individual, but filling the whole body, giving me life as a part of the whole body.
